While you have probably heard me speculate on the state of our economy, I felt it important to dig a little deeper and find out exactly what is going on. I will write up an article after I have gathered some more information, but I wanted to share some of what I found so far.

Fed Pumps $41B Into US Financial System.
Western banks suffer big losses.
Citigroup Falls to Four-Year Low After Analyst Cuts(Update6).
Markets fear banks have $1 trillion in toxic debt.
Crisis may make 1929 look like a 'walk in the park'.

Post Script: Best rant ever, Keith Olberman.

and this

Also interesting, and disgraceful.

"The true patriot is motivated by a sense of responsibility and out of self-interest for himself, his family, and the future of his country to resist government abuse of power. He rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state. Resistance need not be violent, but the civil disobedience that might be required involves confrontation with the state and invites possible imprisonment." -Ron Paul

I think this is an awesome idea! If we all come up with innovative ideas like this we could all make a difference maybe. Learning words and helping feed people? Sign me up!

Bowling for Columbus

I had a decent outing at the alley last night. 2 games over average although one was under 100 - I'm off the team. We started the second half of the season now 0-8. Holding it down.

I received an interesting offer. My coworker can get tix to the Democratic debate in Hollywood coming up. I think that this could be interesting to see how this piece of fluff is produced. Are my defenestrators in?

The AP revealed their person of the year. We need to analyze his impact on culture further.

Although the Writer's Strike is not over, John Stewart and Colbert are slated to come back on the air without the writers Jan. 7.

This is why people hate lawyers. I am gonna sue that stuck his tongue out at me on the bus for $50k for irreparable emotional damage.

A new medical journal responds to medical myths. Among interesting medical updates are shaved hair DOES NOT grow back faster, coarser and darker and Reading in dim light DOES NOT ruin your eyesight.

Most importantly, my favorite day of the year is only 4 months away!
Interesting fact: "It has also been suggested that NASA invented the high-five, as it was a popular gesture among test pilots in the 1950s." From here (You have to look at the accompanied picture from this link. Priceless!) Interesting side note, I was told recently that if you look at the other person's elbow during a high five, the impact and clap will be more forceful and satisfying.

Ron Popeil for President

I actually saw the article being written about by Q Pub and Volksy early in the afternoon yesterday and wanted to tackle it. Again, I didn't have enough time to gather my thoughts. Instead I went home and played poker; pretty cool tournament - 90 player knockout tournament. I got my buy-in back on bounties alone! I guess distractions from any kind of critical thinking is why we are losing in the first place. However, I do see the importance of winding down at times. Speaking of which, I haven't drank since Sunday!!!

Now, since I was playing poker and organizing my iTunes all last night, I feel I have gathered the poise to comment on this topic from another vantage. Now there are very interesting questions and comments that need to be addressed from such a small article. Before I elaborate on those, I would like to let my viewpoints on the political atmosphere be inked.

I for one am not a supremacist of any sort, if anything I am a man of self-loathing. I think not one person is superior to the idea that being a good person is the most important thing in this life. Now, do I think that people should be proud of their heritage and backgrounds? Sure. Do I think it should be ever consuming to any person or race? Absolutely not. Do I like asking myself questions and answering them immediately afterwards ala Donald Rumsfeld? Possibly. When it comes to pride. The only thing I've ever been proudof was the 3 foot long deuce I once had that didn't break. It wrapped around the toilet like a soft serve chocolate ice cream.

Let's address the many important aspects of this article. First, why was this on the front page of Seriously. When was the last time you saw on the front page of any news lobbyists for tobacco, nuclear energy, or rabid rabied babies giving to any "major" political campaigner. Someone get me the numbers, how much had the Carlyle Group and Halliburton given to the major DC players? Do we ever hear about this. It has been argued that these groups contribute more to violence than I think that one blogger ever could. Our wars are fought (although I am not shorstsighted enough to say "only fought") for the profit of these companies. The political clout and money these companies contribute FAR outweigh the $500 this single man ever could. I don't know enough about him, but Ron Paul does not seem like a man who could be bought, let alone for $500.

Second, who digged this info up? Was this the worst person who has donated to this man's campaign? How long did it take whoever found this to find one bad man's donation? I mean, we never hear about the American Hero Henry Ford donating mucho dollars to Hitler's regime, but on the flipside we hear about this $500. Aren't kids dying in Iraq and Darfur, aren't we delving into a recession, isn't Britney Spears' sister pregnant? And this is front page material?

Third, I think this is a deliberate piece of slander on the parts of the major political players. Whenever someone grassroots has traction, we hear Racist Ron Paul and Kooky Kucinich. These people who are truly trying to make a change in DC are marginalized to the points of ridicule and shame. This political theater is appalling.

Fourth, "We know that he's not a white nationalist. He says he isn't and we believe him, but on the issues, there's only one choice," Black said Wednesday. "We like his stand on tight borders and opposition to a police state," Black told The Palm Beach Post earlier. That's what the dude who contributed had to say about Ron Paul. No in no way am I a white nationalist, but I have to say that the reason he is donating (border security and the OPPOSITION to a POLICE STATE) sounds pretty good to me. In addition the guy even admits that he thinks Ron Paul is not a White Nationalist but is giving money anyway.

Lastly, Volksy stated that Ron Paul is "the only only honest and decent man to run for president in my lifetime". I take issue with that. Here is my now official endorsement for the '08 election... Dennis Kucinich! I honestly believe that all he wants is to better America, let us all have equal access to quality and affordable education, quality and affordable healthcare, and quality and affordable unalienable rights that our forefathers preached. Heck, he was the first guy against the Iraq war before it became cool. I believe he is the other honest and decent man running for President. Fuck it, put the two together and see how quickly things get better.

Now for the fun:

Be sure to drink your Ovaltine!

Don't ask me how I found this, but I will say i get pretty nostalgic around Christmas time.

Although I had planned on traveling to quite a few places, I now have a first stop on my trip. Don't recognize it? Yep, that is the house from the movie "A Christmas Story". You too can now visit this monument of classic Americana.

Interesting Article with BAD filename (see address when open)

I am extremely disappointed how they spun this negatively over $500.

Afternoon Coffee

When I first came up with the idea for this consortium of links and ideas, this article (Note: Article has been removed. Please find the actual study here) was the first I wanted to post and comment about. Now, maybe the conclusions are flawed - of course smarter people are going to read, who are then going to vote, contribute to charities, go to museums. Or maybe it is true that reading stimulates the brain, which then makes people more aware and analytical which leads to this more cultured life. Either way, I challenged myself and friends to figure out how to take the conclusions of this article practical.

I decided the best thing to do was to promote reading within myself, friends and family. First, I bought and am reading Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography (which I am thoroughly enjoying, but haven't picked up in over a week - Damn it). Next I decided that all of the gifts I give people this holiday season are going to be books. Granted, everyone I will be getting books for already reads pretty regularly, but I will still be promoting reading! Anyway, if you have any additional ideas, maybe you can add a comment or make your own post in regards to it. Maybe Big Brother/Big Sister, orating at 3rd street promenade...?

Now, I want to post another link but feel I don't have time right now to sufficiently add a summary worthy of it. So I will wait. It will be good though. Is the anticipation killing you?

Instead of what I wanted to do, I will add more fun:

One Cup or the Holy Grail

I think that the song linked to in Volksgeist's post is more relevant and impactful than Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)." It is definitely a song that is a reaction to a much more horrific event...

Unfortunately, I have consciously decided to take the blue pill and have refused to watch said video. Although I like humor and disgusting things, my penchant for vomiting has declined steadily over the years.

I think that this TGOC has served as an interesting social experiment. I was talking to a coworker who had heard about this phenomenon and decided to watch the video. After countless web searches, the only videos he found were people taping their own reactions to it. Everyone who interacts with both the internet and the terribly wonderful things on it are now stars.

I use to think "Jackass" was a very smart show the first day I watched it. I interpreted it as a sign of our collective ennui and thought it was a statement of protest against our current social affairs. I viewed at it somewhat as an SI Affair (more and more); "A moment of life concretely and deliberately constructed by the collective organization of a unitary ambiance and a game of events."

Assuming that was the initial intention of "Jackass", it's message was so perverted with the making of the movies, their insistence on drug use and the interpretation by the common man. What is real is funny. What is dangerous and disgusting is real. And now Two Girls One Cup will live in infamy.

In addition, without having seen the video, I now wonder if Two Girls One Cup is the true meaning of going "family style".

Two Chicks, One Cup, The Road To Recovery.

There are certain events that happen over the course of ones life, that by no fault of the individual forever alters the course of that persons life. For some it may be a car accident, or maybe falling in love. For me it was watching the "Two chicks, one cup" video that has been spreading around the internet recently.

Although I like to think of myself as a somewhat creative person, I fail to grasp the words to describe my ordeal and the subsequent mental scarring that I must now live with. I have taken the "red pill" and I can never go back. My only recourse at this time, is to show the "real world" to some more people, and hope we can find a way to reconcile our place in the universe. This is day 1, year 1 ATC(After Two Chicks), now who wants that "red pill"? (probably not safe for work)

If you jumped down that rabbit hole, and are now lost and unsure of what to make of the world, there is hope! All over the planet people are coping with "Two Chicks, One Cup", in their own way. The devastation is massive, with people hit from all walks of life. I'll post a few videos of the victims, but I do this only so a better understanding can be reached.
[All videos from here on out are not graphic.]
Poor Flip.
And Corona Shirt Guy.
And Blond Smoker.
And finally Private Pyle and Private Cowboy.

I think to get past this we must first understand why this happened and I think this guy is on the right track. He wrote a very nice song that sums it all up.
[This might not be safe for work, it's a funny song but might be inappropriate.]
This guy.

While I am unsure of the future, I will keep moving forward, one day at a time. One step at a time, down the road to recovery...

Common Goal...

Mutual edification! The idea sprang from the minds of three friends, all with a thirst for knowledge in all matters. I believe there is a common affection for the renaissance forefathers who would master one particular domain but also who strive to learn about all things that affect humanity. A displeasure for the ennui that has been seeped into our nature though the perpetual and intentional devolution of mankind. Even the cows today seem more stoopider. But they are happy; they live in California. I digress.

This forum is for all. The purpose is Fight Clubesque - Destroy what we already know (or in other words, what we have been taught) and restart from the beginning. Anyhow. I think this will be an interesting experiment to see what at least 3 different people are finding on the Internet, what we are learning from this ever expanding library of information, what critical thinking is occurring after analyzing said articles and how we respond to each other in a non-spontaneous matter. I feel if one takes the time to articulate their beliefs through writing, the efficacy is far greater than in an instantaneous dialogue where meaning is misconstrued due to poor language or tone.

All that being said, I am looking forward to laughing as well.
