Another innocent white victim of black violence

PORTSMOUTH

He seemed like the most unlikely of suspects - a teenage boy known by most as a quiet violinist, a kid whose heroes were classical musicians.

But on Friday, Portsmouth police announced they had arrested 17-year-old Robert Lee Barnes in the slaying of Meghan Landowski, a Woodrow Wilson High School student whose April 10 death at home in the middle of the afternoon had shocked and scared her peers and the community.

Barnes, of the 600 block of Lancer Drive, faces charges of first-degree murder and burglary. At his arraignment in Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Friday morning, Commonwealth's Attorney Earle Mobley said he plans to try the teen as an adult.
